Deaf and hard of hearing

IDHN is a growing community of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Muslims in Toronto and the GTA, featuring a variety of events, classes, and programs that integrates them into the broader Muslim community.

Your Community. Your Language.

Giving a Voice and a Platform to Deaf and Hard of Hearing Muslims

Muslims with disabilities were part of the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) community from the start. Some were leaders and decision makers. IDHN follows that example.

Learn ASL. Build bridges

American Sign Language (ASL) is a complete language with its own grammar. It is not English on the hands. Every country has its own sign languages, and ASL is the one most widely used by Deaf people in Toronto and English-speaking Canada. That is why we teach it. It lets you communicate with the people you will meet in our community and beyond.

Take our ASL course with Sr. Javeria, a member of the Deaf community. Learn to sign, understand Deaf culture, and see the challenges Deaf people face every day. Choose from three levels.
